Itoya Ginza Stationery | 銀座 伊東屋 文房具
Recognized by its iconic giant red paperclip hanging above the prestigious Ginza shopping boulevard, Itoya (銀座 伊東屋) has reigned as Japan’s foremost stationery emporium since its founding in 1904. Its 12-story flagship ‘G.Itoya’ is a modern cathedral of writing instruments and design stationery.
Individual floors are curated like bespoke design galleries: an entire level dedicated to thousands of hand-crafted Japanese fountain pens and custom inks; an ethereal paper gallery (‘Takeo Paper Show’) displaying over 1,000 textures and weights of traditional washi and fine printing papers; and custom travel journal design counters.
Bruce’s Lived Experience Note: Japanese stationery is in a league of its own for tactile quality and engineering perfection. Spending an hour on Itoya’s pen floor testing ultra-smooth Japanese nibs and finding the perfect hand-bound washi notebook is an absolute joy. It’s impossible to walk out empty-handed.
